Webinar: Proposed Changes to "Public Charge" Rules for Immigrants: The Impact on Health Care Access & the Role of MLP

Webinar

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has recently announced plans to change longstanding policy about how “public charge” rules apply to certain immigrants. The proposed changes, if adopted, could make it more difficult for immigrants who use Medicaid and other public benefits to obtain a green card through a family member or enter the U.S. on a visa.

Many medical-legal partnerships are active in health care settings where immigrants and their families get care, and the implications of this proposed rule change will be significant and complex for many of those patients.

On May 2, the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership will host a webinar featuring staff from LegalHealth, a division of the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), on these possible changes to public charge regulations. Panelists will review the current rules, outline possible changes, and plan for next steps in the event new regulations are proposed. LegalHealth will be joined by staff from The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO).
